What do I need to do to prepare for an academic search using OpenScholar?

2025-08-14 92

The following preparations need to be completed to use OpenScholar for academic queries:

  1. Request API key: Visit the official Semantic Scholar website to request a free API key.
  2. Installation Configuration: Ensure that the Python environment is 3.8+, and after installing the OpenScholar component, run the start_models.sh script to start the models service.
  3. Starting the API service: Start openscholar_api.py from the command line, passing in the API key and model path parameters.
  4. test connection: Use the Python requests library to send test queries to verify that the service is working.

Note: OpenScholar relies on Semantic Scholar's academic databases, make sure your network connection is working and your API key is valid. The service runs on local port 38015 by default, which can be adjusted by modifying the configuration.
