Specialized Solutions for Academic Writing
For the grammatical enhancement needs of academic papers, Refine offers two specialization modes:
- Academic model(Recommended Preferred): Select "Academic" in Settings > Writing Style to activate:
- Passive voice preference suggested ("We conducted" → "The experiment was conducted")
- Latin terminology retained (e.g. et al., in vitro not flagged as error)
- Optimization of long complex sentence structure (automatic splitting of run-on sentences)
- Subject customization: Subject-specific dictionaries are loaded via Preferences>Advanced (medical/legal/engineering extensions are available on the website).
Operational Recommendations:
- Switch to Academic mode in the Refine menu bar before writing (icon changes to dark blue)
- Use in-depth analysis for key passages (right-click > Enhanced Proofreading)
- Use the Report function to generate syntax fix statistics (with formality scores) before exporting
